halloween and the church

so I've been thinking about this alot.
I go to church every sunday with all my kids, and the last couple of weeks I hear parents and kids arguing about whether or not they should go trick or treating.
I mean come on folks.... its not like they are asking to drink some chicken blood.
They just want some candy! they want to play dressup! they want to have some fun! people in the church get soo weirded out by this holiday.... as if their kid is going to start drawing pentagrams on the arm if they dress up like a pirate for free candy.

People get so uptight about things that really have no real influence on anything.
Be honest with your kids.
I tell mine,
we are not "celebrating" witches or ghosts or evil.
we are getting some freeeeeeeeeeee candy :o)

I'm so hooked!

MAN!!!

Do you know how it feels to have something controlling your life?

I'm not talking cigarettes or alcohol, or gambling or drugs....

its worse..

I don't need ID, or a dealer, or $1000's of dollars,......

just cable.

Fox Tv's new show Prison Break is RIVETING! I LOVE IT!!

I'M A PRISON BREAK JUNKIE!

It doesn't help that my husband is an Officer at a jail so prison culture is really interesting to me. But they had to make the stars of the show ( in the immortal words of Zoolander) "reeeallly, reeeally, reeeally good-looking." And they're doing a great job of making themselves likeable, honorable and charming, which (as my hubby can vouch for) is incredibly hard in a prison setting.

With twists and turns, modern "villains", and Government plots, you can understand why NO ONE can phone, visit or talk to me on Monday nights from 9 p (PST), to 10 p.

If you haven't seen it already, YOU GOTTA!!!!!

With action keeping you at the edge of your seat like (another Fox show) 24, camaraderie like Band of Brothers, and intelligent plot development like West Wing, you can't be disappointed watching this show.

I find myself thinking about them ( as if they are real) throughout the day. (It's sick really.) BUT it's such a good show. If the show can do this to me, it can do it to you. I don't really know the value in watching a tv show that makes you feel like an addict, but it sure is fun!!

yes Master.....

OH ya, isn't he mister coooool!
actually this pic was taken a couple of weeks ago down in Miami (and he was shaking the sea water off of him as I snapped it. )
This is my husband! And today he GRADUATED with his Masters Degree in Leadership Studies from Royal Roads University.
I am SOOOOOO proud.

We went to Florida with all 5 kids to celebrate him finishing his Masters. It was an AWESOME trip.
Seems a little extravagant I know. But we had to do something HUGE to commemorate his accomplishment. I mean he completed his Master of Arts in 2 years while maintaining a healthy marriage, relationship with his children, friends, family obligations, various volunteer positions, AND a full time job. (phew)
He did such a great job. :o) He got great marks for all of his assignments, and has done 2 presentations for the provincial government.
ok, ok, so I'm singing his praises..... but wouldn't you??
What a man. What a blessing. (how well he did AND that he is done ;)
Congratulations Honey!!!!

What day it is and time it is?

As I've said already I have five kids. I have one particular kid who several times a day asks me "what day it is and what time it is?" ( he's 4)

And I always ask him WHY he wants to know...... he often tells me that it helps him keep track of his day. KEEP TRACK OF HIS DAY??? He is FOUR!

I don't even remember 4, other than a boy in preschool taught me how to pretend to eat my food by chewing on my tongue, and actually put the food in a plant behind us. And if you blew on your arm you could make fart noises.... keep track of my day? I never knew what day of the week it was!

So now I have kids who have 'agendas' and watches, with scheduled playdates, and due dates for things. They ARE trying to keep track of their day, their week, their month. What have we done to them? In an effort to get ourselves more organized and efficient we've scheduled our kids in... "got a soccer game little Johnny?, let me just pencil that in for 6 o'clock. Better yet, let me just check with my secretary."

OMG what happened to the days when kids would ride their bikes and 'end up' at a park, or 'call on' their friends, " Can Susie come out and play?"

What happened to hide and go seek in the dark after supper? or playing army in the back yard?

Us parents blame stuff on TV and playstations, but really we're the ones to blame. When was the last time YOU played Hide and Go Seek with your kids? When was the last time you pulled your self away from your PC or laptop to go kick around a soccer ball?

Everything is "later" or "in a minute", or "how about tomorrow?" If we don't have a bit of spontaneity in our lives how can we expect our kids to????

I'm not saying throw away your Dayplanner or your Blackberry, I'm just saying take some time to do away with time.

Virgin Blogger

Interesting that for months now I've been completely intimidated by blogging, by bloggers, by blogs...
the word 'blog' sounds like something so definite to me. Maybe too vulnerable.

Well I just spent a morning reading some friends blogs, and thought,
I journal, why not blog?
I'm serious I NEED to journal otherwise my brain would EXPLODE. It is constantly racing. The only time it slows down is when it is on my husband's chest, or I've had too much wine, or watched a dumb movie, or any combination of those.
I'm hoping that blogging will curb my communication needs and I won't talk too much anymore. HA!

I don't know what you'll find on this site, I just hope that sometimes it will make you think, make you smile, maybe even make you go hug someone you love.

This blogging isn't so intimidating after all.......
